Several ingredients will help fade spots. These include Retin A, Kinetin, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Vitamin C and hydroquinone. Each ingredient has its strengths and weaknesses. I encourage you to discuss them with your dermatologist. The most widely used and frequently prescribed ingredient is hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is stronger than ingredients such as vitamin C. One downside is that hydroquinone can eventually lead to skin lightening called hypopigmentation.. If you chose hydroquinone, limit its use to six months and stop using the product once the desired result is achieved. Then, be obsessive about using sunscreen.
